Dr. rer. nat. Frank Stehr studied Biochemistry / Molecular Biology in Hamburg. He finished his doctoral thesis in Hamburg and Los Angeles in the field of molecular medicine. Afterwards, he was responsible for the research of the NCL Foundation for 9 years. Since 22 March 2013 he has been the Executive of the Board.

Dr. Herman van der Putten studied biology and received his PhD from the Radbaud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands. He received postdoctoral fellowships from EMBO and the Dutch organization for scientific research. He worked 2 years at the University of Geneva (Switzerland) and 3 years at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in San Diego (USA). From 1986 to 2012 he was head of a molecular biology laboratory, discipline expert on the molecular and cellular biology council and Executive Director in Neuroscience Discovery at Novartis  (Basel, Switzerland). As Executive Director in the departments of neuropsychiatry and neurodegeneration, he was responsible for the identification, validation and development of new drug targets and therapies for psychiatric conditions, Parkinson’s disease and rare diseases like Huntington’s disease.

Tanja Stern has many years of experience in event management for companies and service providers. Before she joined NCL Foundation she had worked for 8 years for a leading insurance company as well as in the finance industry in Frankfurt, where she took up also evening classes and gained a degree in marketing communications (VWA). Since October 2013 she is responsible for the events of NCL foundation.

Tiziana Serio completed her studies in biology at the University of Würzburg with a Bachelor of Science degree. Since March 2013, she is responsible for training and fundraising.






Supervisory Board

Dr. Frank HusemannDr. Frank Husemann (founder and chair of the Supervisory Board)

Dr. oec. publ. Frank Husemann read economic sciences in Zurich and Freiburg. He then worked for two large German banks in Germany and the USA. Until 2005, he worked as a strategy consultant with an international consulting firm. Today he is involved in an international plant engineering company in the energy industry, based in Hamburg.





Martin HartleifMartin Hartleif 

Martin Hartleif, carrying a Master of Business Administration, was born on 14 July 1964 in Bochum, Dortmund, where he read economics. After completion of the tax consultant exam in 1997, he was operating as a partner in a national tax consultant practice. Since 2000 he has been self-employed in his private practice in Dortmund. 





Dr. Rainer KuhnDr. Rainer Kuhn

Dr. rer. nat. Rainer Kuhn read biology and graduated "summa cum laude" at the Institute of Genetics at the University of Dusseldorf. After a three-year stay at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in San Diego, he worked from 1992 to 2012 in pharmaceutical research at Novartis Pharma AG in Basel. As head of research for neurodegenerative diseases, he was responsible for the development of many new therapeutic approaches that are currently in clinical trials.
Today he is the owner of Redbark GmbH, an independent consulting company for research and development, and co-founder of the biotech company IRBM-Promidis which conducts research on new therapies for rare diseases.



Alexander Rößler

Alexander Rößler 


Alexander Roessler, born 1974 in Karl-Marx-Stadt, studied law in Würzburg and Coimbra, Portugal. Following the 2nd State Examination in Saxony, he initially worked for a large German rehabilitation counseling and bankruptcy administration firm in Chemnitz before joining as a staff lawyer in the legal department of an international plant engineering company based in Hamburg in the field of renewable energies at the end of 2004. Since March 2013 Mr. Roessler has been on the Board of Trustees of the NCL Foundation.



This German - English translation was done by the translators Tizzy Mann, Andrea Murphy, Kate Humby and Marcia Neff for the PerMondo initiative that involves providing free translations for NGOs. PerMondo is sponsored and run by the translation agency Mondo Agit.
